Welcome

Welcome to Nishkam Primary School Birmingham. We are a two-form entry school situated in the Handsworth area of Birmingham. Our unique school building has been built by volunteers from the community who when the school was being built, worked their day jobs before arriving at the school each evening to finish the school to the highest standard. Volunteers would say it was their ‘privilege’ to help build the school and it is our privilege to serve the children and families here at Nishkam Primary School.

We are a multi-faith school with a Sikh ethos which gives the opportunity to use the inter-religious history of the faith to nurture the respect of all faiths and those of no faith allowing us to work together as a collective for the greater good. We learn from religions as well as about religions. We support pupils to develop aspects of their own faith identities. The children have opportunities to learn prayers from their own respective faiths, join in regular collective worship and deepen their understanding of the faith traditions specific to their own faith. This is important to us.

The school offers the full range of National Curriculum which is enriched with the Nishkam virtues and personal experiences. A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, both during and after school, enable us to nurture the interests and talents of our pupils.

The staff at Nishkam Primary School hold the highest of expectations of the children they teach. An aspiration for excellence helps teachers ensure that these standards permeate through everything we do; from the way we present ourselves, to the work we produce to the way in which we interact with and treat one another. Through a faith inspired, virtues-led approach, our children flourish not only academically, but socially, morally and spiritually too. We believe an outstanding education and a sense of moral purpose based on core virtues, are the greatest gifts that we can give our children in preparation to be future leaders, responsible citizens and lifelong learners.

At Nishkam, parents as seen as equal partners in their child’s education and feel this is crucial to our success. By working together, we can ensure that our children are supported both at home and at school to help build a foundation for success during their time at primary school.

We know that each child is unique, special, individual but we want the same thing for them all: for them to achieve within all aspects of their life, spiritually, socially and academically in order to be the best they can be. We look forward to welcoming you visit or join our school.

Kind regards,

Mrs G Kaur
