Additional funding for the academic year 2023-2024  for schools, colleges and other 16 to 19 institutions to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).

Rationale

The guidance indicates that the supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme and have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, and are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support. These are defined as students from the 27% most economically deprived areas of the country based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation. Students will be prioritised for small group tuition based on this criteria.

Group Sizes and Selecting Students

Our students benefit most from our small group tuition which also enables us to prioritise the support we give. Sessions will be in small groups of up to 5 students, in exceptional circumstances this may be extended to up to 7 students.

NHSB will have due regard to the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning because of their specific needs and disabilities.

When identifying who needs support from the tuition fund on the basis of economic disadvantage, NHSB will have regard for the individual needs of students, for example, providing tuition to assist high achieving disadvantaged students to reach their full potential, in addition to supporting other students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

All tuition groups are being delivered by subject specialists on a weekly basis for sessions, where they will focus on misconceptions, key exam skills and assessment practice. It is our view that using existing subject staff is more impactful than using external agencies. All sessions will adhere to our current risk assessments.

Implementation 

Nishkam High School will use the funding as follows:

● Recruiting a number of subject specialists from our staff across our Sixth Form to work with students in small groups to support teaching and learning.

● Run small group sessions in addition to the existing timetabled hours.

● Support will be offered and provided based on the individual needs of each student.

 

Nishkam High School’s Commitment

Nishkam High School is committed to ensuring that the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 Tuition Fund by:

● Producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students

● Publishing this guidance on the school’s website

● Recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students who receive support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retain the evidence of the tuition provided

● Deliver the extra tuition and spend the allocated funds in the academic year 2023/24

 ● Notify the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed
