Pupils at a primary school have raised their voices to the challenge of bringing joy during the pandemic.
The school community at Niksham Primary School, in Great Brickkiln Street, Wolverhampton, would usually be raising funds for various charities over the festive period through their musical endeavours, which have previously raised more than £100 for The Haven.
But due to the ongoing restrictions, all carol concerts this Christmas have been cancelled.
This hasn’t stopped students doing their bit for charity, instead the children have recorded their own ‘Nishkam Christmas CD’.
More than £700 has been raised which will be donated to children’s charity Promise Dreams, which was chosen by pupils.
Miss Grace Gull, Music Lead, said: “Unfortunately, we were unable to take part in our usual charity carol singing however we have risen to the challenge and created our first ever whole school ‘Nishkam Christmas CD’.
“It was recorded virtually in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines and comprises of 10 different Christmas tracks”.
“The children have really shown their enjoyment of music through all of these activities and have enjoyed spreading the Christmas spirit. Through their determination and diligence pupils raised a fantastic £700 for Promise Dreams, a charity chosen by the pupils.”
The children also recorded three virtual nativity performances across EYFS, KS1 and Lower Key Stage 2.
Mr Dhanjal, Headteacher, added: “It has been fantastic to see our school community come together to raise money for such a worthy cause.
“This is the very essence of our virtuous school, to be selfless.
“The teachers, led by my music lead Miss Gull, have been creative to ensure all Covid-19 guidelines have been followed to allow our children to express themselves by singing and acting in the Christmas productions.”
