Students taking peri lessons receive 10 weekly lessons per term. Each lesson lasts for 20 minutes, and lessons take place during normal class time (students will leave one of their subject lessons for 20 minutes each week to attend the instrument lesson).
The cost for peri lessons is £140 per term (£14 per lesson). The cost for Pupil Premium students is subsidised by the school by 50%. Lesson payments are normally due before the end of the previous term, and the deadline for this is communicated to parents through MCAS/text message.
Timetables and any notices regarding peri lessons are communicated to primary students through their class teacher and to secondary students in tutor time through the pastoral notices. Timetables for current students are also posted on the noticeboard outside the Music room.

Gurbani Kirtan and Shastriya Sangeet
Lessons of Gurbani Kirtan and Shastriya Sangeet are available for pupils from year 5-13 with Gurbaksh Singh Matharu, and Tabla lessons with Pali Singh Kalsi. Please read below for more information about our teachers.
Gurbaksh Matharu is an eminent Indian Classical musician and Gurbani Kirtan exponent acclaimed for playing the Tarshenai, Esraj and Dilruba. Gurbaksh’s virtuosic playing seamlessly intertwines the Sarod and Vocal repertoire he was diligently taught by his Gurus. Whilst integrating many Sarod style techniques, he has developed his own unique dynamic style of playing the Tarshenai and singing. He has contributed immensely towards popularising the Tarshenai in the west and is widely praised for his soul stirring performances. Gurbaksh has trained extensively in Gurbani sangeet and has spent over twenty-five years learning the original repertoire which was present during the time of Guru Arjun Dev Ji at Darbar Sahib.
Pali Singh Kalsi began his musical journey from a young age, learning from various respected teachers. His Tabla practise reached new heights when he began his learning from his highly esteemed teacher Ustad Surdarshan Singh Ji. This has been ongoing for the last 15 years and with his blessings and teachings, Pali continues forward on his musical journey. “My passion for Tabla is a driving force for my desire to teach. I truly believe all the goodness that I have been taught through Tabla should be carried forward to the next generation. I have received a great deal of Musical wisdom in the last 15 years that has been translated in my approach to life. My aim is to carry these teachings forward and enhance the young, enquiring minds of aspiring Tabla players.”
Instruments covered by these teachers include the Taus, Dilruba, Tarshenai, Esraj, Saranda, vocals, Harmonium, Tabla and Jori. Groups lessons take place once a week for half an hour, during the school day (similar to music lessons from Hounslow Music Service).
