Q: What are the school opening and closing times?
For Reception children, there is an 8.20-8.30am soft start and a 2.50pm to 3.00pm soft finish to the day.
For KS1 children, there is an 8.10-8.20am soft start and a 3.00pm to 3.10pm soft finish to the day.

Q: What to do if my child is late for school?
If your child is late to school, they must sign in at Reception. Being punctual is an important aspect of school life and ensures lessons can begin on time and take place without disruption. In the secondary phase, students receive a 20-minute detention at lunchtime if they are late to school. In the primary phase, parents will receive letters if their children are regularly late to school; Nishkam School West London aims to encourage and instil good habits in our children from a young age and we ask parents to work with us to achieve this. If children arrive after 8.45am, their attendance is marked as ‘late after registers closed’ and they will be given an unauthorised absence mark for the morning session.
Q: What do I do if I am going to be late in collecting my child?
If you are late to collect your primary child, they will be escorted to reception by an Associate Teacher, where they will be supervised. Whilst we know it is sometimes unavoidable, we ask all parents to arrive on time for the collection to avoid disruption to our after-school activities. Please note that if you are more than 15 minutes late to collect your child from the normal school day, you will be charged the 3-4.30pm aftercare fee and an additional £5 emergency booking fee.
Secondary phase children are permitted to use the library at the end of the day.
Q: Can I send someone else to pick up my child?
Yes, you can. However, you must ensure the adult has your child’s pick-up password.
Q: How do I report my child's absence from school?
Please email Attendance NSWL attendance.nswl@nishkamschools.org or call the school on 02031418760.
Q: When are the school holidays?
All term dates can be found here Nishkam School - Term dates (nishkamschooltrust.org)
Q: Can I take my child on holiday during term time?
Parents are expected to organise family holidays outside the school term dates during the school holiday period. The DFE (Department for Education) have advised Schools not to
authorise holidays taken during term time. Only in exceptional circumstances can a Headteacher agree to term time leave. You can find more information on your child’s attendance and term time leave here Nishkam School - Attendance
Q: How will I be informed if there is an enforced school closure?
We ask all parents to download the MyChildatSchool application, where notifications will be sent directly to you. https://www.mychildatschool.com/MCAS/MCSParentLogin However, we also email parents with important updates such as school closures.
If you do not have your MCAS login details, please email Enquiries NSWL Enquiries.NSWL@nishkamschools.org with your full name and your child’s full name.

Q: What should I put in my child's packed lunch?
The content of lunchboxes should strive to reflect the requirement of schools to meet minimum food and nutrition standards for school meals.
Children’s packed lunches should include items from the 5 main food groups;
- Bread, Rice, Potatoes, Pasta. These starchy foods are a healthy source of energy. Packed lunches should include 2 or more portions e.g. pasta salad, sandwich.
- Fruit and Vegetables. These foods provide vitamins, minerals and fibre. Lunches should include at least 1 portion of fruit and 1 portion of vegetables / salad, or more e.g. carrot/cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, a piece of fruit.
- Milk and Dairy food (equivalent non-dairy products). These foods provide calcium for healthy bones and teeth. Include 1 portion at lunch e.g. yoghurt, fromage frais, oat milk etc
- Cheese, Tofu, Beans, Lentils. These foods provide protein for growth. Packed lunches should include 1 portion of these foods e.g. Cheese wrap or mixed bean salad.
- Drinks – any drinks provided in lunch boxes should only include either plain water, milk or unsweetened fresh fruit juice. No flavoured water or drinks containing added sugar.
The school site is a meat, fish and egg free site. We also do not allow nuts on the school site due to students with serious allergies.
Foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar. It is important not to fill up on too many foods that are high in fat and/or sugar at the expense of other more nutritious foods. Limiting high fat and sugar foods will help protect children from becoming overweight as well as helping prevent tooth decay, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Please support us by not including these items in a packed lunch:
- Fizzy Pop/Fruit shoots
- Sweets
- Chocolate bars

Our focus on healthy eating means that pupils can bring to school fruit, vegetables or bread sticks/rice cakes for their morning snack. Any other items are discouraged. If your child does have a diagnosed medical condition that effects their eating, we ask you to talk to their class teacher.
